Youth Figure Skating Classes

Learn To Skate With Us!

Ice Valley Centre Ice Arena  is a family fun zone as well as a competitive ice arena, featuring an NHL rink, arcade, Breakaway Café concessions, and four private party/meeting rooms.

Ice Valley offers programming to advanced and beginning skaters alike, including; learn to skate, figure skating, intro to hockey, youth hockey, adult hockey, curling, public skating, drop-in hockey, and freestyle ice sessions.

Ages 3 - 5

Little Blades

This unique and fun filled class teaches the fundamentals of skating to children ages 3-5 years of age. Each week, skaters will learn basic balance and skating skills in a themed environment, including a Frozen week, Tot Olympics and Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration while incorporating age appropriate on ice activities. Skaters will develop the coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on the ice independently.

All classes meet once per week for 45 minutes. Skate rental is included and a helmet is required for this class.

All skaters in the Learn to Skate USA program are required to purchase a Learn to Skate USA membership once per season. This membership, valid July 1 - June 30 each skating season, may be purchased at www.learntoskateusa.com. Please assign your skater to Ice Valley Centre Ice Arena when asked which program you are joining. Memberships must be valid by the first day of class.

Parent + Me

Parents, join in on the fun as this unique and fun filled class teaches the fundamentals of skating to children ages 3-5.  Each week, skaters will learn basic balance and skating skills while incorporating age appropriate on ice activities.  Skaters will develop the coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on the ice independently.  

This class meets for 45 minutes once per week.    A helmet is required for this class for younger skaters.  Parents must be 18+ and it must be the same parent each week attending classes.  Parents are asked to assist their skate while on the ice.  

A Learn to Skate USA Membership is required for both skaters before the first day of class.

Ages 6 - 12

Basic 1

For the beginner skater! Basic skating skills such as falling down and standing up, gliding and swizzles will be introduced. For skaters ages 6-12 years old. This class meets for 45 minutes once per week and skate rental is included.

All classes meet once per week for 45 minutes. Skate rental is included and a helmet is recommended for this class.

All skaters in the Learn to Skate USA program are required to purchase a Learn to Skate USA membership once per season. This membership, valid July 1 - June 30 each skating season, may be purchased at www.learntoskateusa.com. Please assign your skater to Ice Valley Centre Ice Arena when asked which program you are joining. Memberships must be valid by the first day of class.

Basic 2

For skaters who have successfully passed Basic 1. Skaters will continue to learn the basics of ice skating while beginning basic backward skating skills. For skaters ages 6-12 years old. This class meets for 45 minutes once per week and skate rental is included.

All classes meet once per week for 45 minutes. Skate rental is included and a helmet is recommended for this class.

All skaters in the Learn to Skate USA program are required to purchase a Learn to Skate USA membership once per season. This membership, valid July 1 - June 30 each skating season, may be purchased at www.learntoskateusa.com. Basic 3 + 4

For skaters who have successfully passed Basic 2. In this combined class, skaters will learn in this level beginning stroking, half swizzle pumps, backward one foot glides and backward snowplow stops. For skaters ages 6-12 years old. This class meets once per week for 45 minutes. Skate rental is included.

Skaters who have successfully passed Basic 3 will be eligible to join The Academy, a two day a week skating program for the advancing skater.

All skaters in the Learn to Skate USA program are required to purchase a Learn to Skate USA membership once per season. This membership, valid July 1 - June 30 each skating season, may be purchased at www.learntoskateusa.com. Basic 5 + 6

For skaters who have successfully passed Basic 4. Ages 6 - 17

The Academy

The Academy is designed to teach skating skills at a faster pace in a small group environment. This seven week training program will provide skaters with a variety of on ice skating instruction as well as the opportunity to develop further mastery of their skills by working in a semi-private or small group. This class is perfect for anyone wanting to perform in ice shows, compete, learn new disciplines in figure skating or wanting to advance through the levels quicker.

Academy Bronze is for skaters in Basic 4-6, Academy Silver is for skaters in Pre-Freeskate - Freeskate 3, Academy Gold is for skaters in Freeskate 4-6 and Academy Platinum is for skaters who have passed Freeskate 6.
